The Underground Utilities Project

Since the passing of Hurricane Charley, a group of Captiva residents, working with the Captiva Community Panel, has been doing a lot of work to try to get our powerlines, phone lines, and other utilities buried. Putting the lines underground would make them pretty much immune to wind damage, and should greatly increase the reliability of power all over the island. (If you would like a quick overview of what the "undergrounding" process is all about, you can CLICK HERE to read what FPL tells its customers about burying powerlines.)

You can download a copy of the new R.L. Willoughby report on undergrounding Captiva's utilities by clicking on Captiva Island Undergrounding Report.pdf. We strongly suggest you take a few minutes to read through this report--especially because there has been so much misinformation being bandied about the island.

We will be issuing further updates as the project progresses. If you would like to stay informed on this and any other island issues, sign up for the CPOA's mailing list. If you're not on the list and would like to be, or if you know someone who you think should be on the list, send an email to Webby@CaptivaPropertyOwners.com. You can get on the list at any time, and you can drop out at any time by just sending the Webmaster a note asking to be removed from the list.
